So you’ve decided that PACC Mapping is right for your community!?

At this step, you have a Community Engagement Lead, you have done an initial assessment and believe that PACC Mapping ****is a good fit for the community at this time. If so, let’s start preparing!

Steps to Prepare for PACC Session

We have outlined several steps to prepare a PACC Mapping session:

  1. Confirm your Host
  2. Determine Workshop Focus
  3. Engage Community Participants
  4. Prepare materials and team
  5. Coordinate the workshop

Confirm your Host

This likely has been done in the pre-prep work, but confirm that you have an engaged host from the community who will work with you in getting local data, engaging potential participants, and coordinating the workshop. Sometimes this person can change if there has been a delay in the session planning, so always good to make this role clear.

Determine Workshop Focus

With your host in the community, determine the scope of your mapping session. In some rural areas, for example, the catchment will span multiple towns and bands. In some urban areas, you may focus on the inner city and homeless population. Work with your partner to determine where they need to focus the session.

Look at their local data to help inform the session planning. This includes information on:

  1. Population size, location, and context.
  2. Rates of service utilization among sub-populations within the community. Even anecdotal evidence is helpful to help inform the session planning. If you can find out populations within the community most in need, this will inform your persona selection.
  3. Existing programs and services — generally how do they work (e.g., hours of operation).
  4. Other programs being discussed. It is likely that the stakeholders will all have different ideas to help with service gaps and care coordination - collect them now so you are aware of them if and when they come up in the mapping session.

These data will help inform the session and the personas you select.
